Dear Friends,
Why do we sin? When we love someone or something more than God, we develop an inordinate love. For such a love, we are willing to break God’s commandments. David did just that (2 Samuel 11). A man after God’s own heart looked at Bathsheba, desired her and slept with her. His love for God was displaced by the lust for a woman. But more importantly, he did it brazenly and with impunity. He was foolishly courageous. He was powerful and courageous but foolish too.
Annanias and Saphira were different (Acts 5). They were cowardly foolish. They could do whatever they wished with their property. They were under no compulsion to sell and take the proceeds to the Apostles. But they sold their property. A bold step. But after that they acted like cowards. They kept some of the proceeds to themselves and gave the remaining to the Apostles as if they were giving all. They lied like cowards and foolishly believed that they could get away with it. Amnon too was cowardly foolish (2 Samuel 13)
Those that love the Lord and keep his commandments are simply humble and faithful. Like Joseph and Daniel. They march to a different drum beat, their hearts are set on things above and therefore, the things and people of this world have no sway over them. They escape the corruption of this world.
May our love for God make us humble in spirit and faithful in obedience. Never to be foolishly courageous or cowardly foolish.
Yours in Christ,
Dr. Samson Gandhi
