Friends in Fellowship – PtP Prayer Letter – June 2026

Dear Friends,

David and Saul have a very contrasting relationship with God. I see so much of Saul in my life. I want to be like David.

David sought the Lord and His mind so he could do exactly what the Lord wanted him to do. Saul, on the other hand, attributed his own mind to the Lord and appropriated God’s approval and did what his own heart wanted to do. Please read 1 Samuel 23.

David is on the run from King Saul. In the wilderness, David and his band of people come to know that the people of Keilah, a Judean village, were under attack from Philistines. Davi had to decide if he should save his fellow-Israelites from the Philistines or hide and be safe from King Saul. He sought the will of God and the Lord commanded him to “Go and attack

Philistines, and save Keilah” (v2). But David’s men were afraid. David again sought the will of the Lord. God reassures, saying, “Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand” (v4). Contrast this with how Saul approaches such situations.

Saul came to know that David was in Keilah; he assumed that the Lord had delivered David into his hands. He said, “God has delivered him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering a town that has gates and bars” (v7). Saul did not seek the will of the Lord. He determined to kill him but put it on the Lord that He had delivered David to him. Little did he know that the Lord had sent David to save the people of Keilah. God would never betray the

trust of his children who seek his will and obey him. Saul fails in his pursuit and David is saved at the Rock of Escape v27-29. Sometimes, I have assumed and interpreted favourable circumstances as God’s will. God’s power does not stand out in favourable but tough circumstances. If we trust Him, He will come through and save us no matter what the circumstances are.

Yours in Christ,
Dr. Samson Gandhi
